Sparky Belmont
Sparky Belmont (Michael Belmonti) was a long
time racer, starting with midgets in the 40's,
but finding most of his success in the Modifieds.
Sparky won 3 features at Riverside Park Speedway,
the first in October of 1949 and the last in May
of 1963, besides his many wins at Plainville Stadium,
and many other Northeast Tracks. Sparky died of a heart
attack in the pit area of Plainville Stadium while celebrating
his victory in the 100 lap feature that night in 1969.
Sparky was one of the early drivers to always wear a dapper
driving uniform while racing, bringing some class to the early
days of the sport. Sparky pictured at Riverside Park around 1950 to 1953.
